Privacy Policy – Tennis Friends

1. Who We Are

Tennis Friends (tennisfriends.app) is operated by Barrier, LLC. We built this service to make it easy for tennis players to share their weekly availability and find times to play with friends. Questions? Reach us at support@tennisfriends.app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to run the service:

Phone number — provided when you text our number to use the SMS feature.
Name — your first name or display name, used to identify you to other players in your groups.
Availability preferences — the days and times you tell us you're free to play, submitted via text message or the web app.
Google account information — if you sign in via Google on the web app, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We use this only to create and identify your account.
Text message content — the natural-language messages you send to our SMS number, used to parse your availability.

We do not collect payment information, precise location data, or any sensitive personal data.

3. SMS / Text Messaging

When you text our number (+1 251-572-9890), your message is received and processed to update your availability and send you match notifications. Specifically:

SMS delivery is handled by Twilio, our third-party messaging provider. Twilio processes your phone number and message content to deliver and receive SMS on our behalf. See Twilio's privacy policy at twilio.com/legal/privacy.
Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier plan.
To stop receiving SMS messages from us, reply STOP at any time. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.
To resume messages, reply START.

We comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). By texting our number, you consent to receive automated text messages from Tennis Friends related to your tennis availability and match-finding. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP.

4. AI Processing (Claude / Anthropic)

When you send a text message, the content is processed by an AI model (Claude, developed by Anthropic) to understand your availability in natural language — for example, interpreting "free Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons" into structured schedule data. Your message content is sent to Anthropic's API for this purpose. Anthropic's data handling practices are described in their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.

5. How We Use Your Information

To display your availability to other members of your groups
To identify mutual free times between players
To send you SMS responses about your schedule and matches
To maintain and improve the service
To communicate with you about your account

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

With your group members — your name and availability grid are visible to others in the same Tennis Friends group.
With service providers — Twilio (SMS delivery) and Anthropic (AI parsing) receive data as described above. Both are under contractual obligations to protect your data.
If required by law — we may disclose information in response to a valid legal request.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account information and availability data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you want your data deleted, email us at support@tennisfriends.app and we will remove your data within 30 days.

8. Cookies and Analytics

The web app uses session cookies to keep you signed in via Google OAuth. We do not currently use third-party analytics trackers or advertising cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy.

9. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including HTTPS for all web traffic and secure database storage. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
